Models Wanted for the Little Black Dress Fashion Show!

Yes, it's that time of year again when we search Michiana for an amazing group of ladies willing to be our models for the Little Black Dress fashion show and luncheon.

I know you have questions!  Here are some FAQs:

WHAT KIND OF MODELS ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?
We are looking for ladies between the ages of 18-100.  We ask that those who wish to be a model NOT be a high school student, be able to provide their own transportation and have an email address and a telephone number that they check daily.

I AM NOT A MODEL SIZE, IS THAT OK?
That's great!  We don't want real models for this show.  That is what makes this fashion show so great and fun for everyone!  We search for a variety of ladies from size 0-24+!

WHAT IS MY COMMITMENT IF I AM CHOSEN TO BE A MODEL?
You will be asked to attend one of the open model calls in person (sorry, no exceptions to this!).  This interview will take about 10- minutes.

After the open calls, you will be notified if you have been chosen to be a model in this year's show.  If you are chosen you will be scheduled for a fitting.  The fittings will take place at the Goodwill store on Western Ave. in South Bend.  The times for the fittings are typically on Tuesday / Wednesday between 10am and 3pm.  The fittings are a week before the event. The fitting will take about 30 minutes. We do our best to accommodate everyone's schedule, however we ask that all models do their best to make the prearranged time for their fitting work into their calendar.

HOW ARE THE MODELS FOR THE FASHION SHOW CHOSEN?
After the open calls, a committee from the Style and Image Institute will consider each lady interested in being a model.  Models are chosen based on availability for the fitting and event and overall personality.  Our goal is to have models that represent the largest variety possible of sizes and ages on the runway.

WHO CHOOSES THE OUTFITS FOR THE MODELS?
All of the looks on the runway are completely managed and styled by the Style and Image Institute stylists, under the direction of Kathy Friend, the producer of the show and stylist. On the day of the show, the Style and Image Institute's hair and makeup team will be on hand to glam up the models and make them superstars!

Spring Summer 2014 Fashion Trends

A few weeks ago, many of you joined me at the 5th Annual Little Black Dress Fashion Show and Luncheon.  It was a spectacular day, filled with shopping, good food, and of course...a great fashion show.

If you were one of the lucky ones to be at this must-attend event, then you saw some of the season's top trends on the runway.  For those who weren't able to be with us, I thought I would share a spinet of the fashion show with you, and show you what some of the season's top trends are.

COLORS
Pantone tells us that the year's color is Radiant Orchid.  You will see purple everywhere this season, as an accent to prints and as the statement hue in many looks.  Because purple is hot, you will also see colors that are logical 'matches' to that trending (for example, orange and yellow).

Bold black and white is back and is BOLD this season. This season, step out of your "color comfort" zone, and add a pop of an unexpected color to your geometric black and whites.

SHAPES
Structured shapes are also a big trend this season. Short, boxy jackets over shirt-dresses, traditional trench-coat styles in whimsical prints.

Full skirts are also something for us to consider adding into our wardrobe this season. Think 1950 housewife style.  Longer is more on-trend, but can be hard to wear.

INSPIRATIONS
It seems every summer, we see a nautical feel in trends.  This season is no exception. Stripes, strong hardware...all nautical inspired details.

FABRICS
One of the fabrics we are seeing a lot of this season is a heavy lace.  Personally, I am in love with this look!

STYLE
The maxi dress is back and bigger than ever!

PRINTS
Prints this season have a distinct artistic tribal feel.

The Makings of a Fashion Show - part 5

The nest step is MODEL FITTINGS!

My 2 assistants help me go through TONS of racks of clothes to pull outfit ideas together.  And by tons, I mean more than 30 racks.

We then size those outfit ideas, and sort them by each model.  Each model had 4-6 different looks to try on when they came for a fitting.  The goal is to get 3 great looks for each model to wear on the runway.

When each model comes for her fitting, we spend about 30-45 minutes going over the outfit ideas.  Generally we need to run back to the racks to find different sizes, colors etc.

Once the outfits are selected, we then start styling them.  Choosing jewelery, shoes, handbags and other fun accessories to complete each look.

The final step is to inventory and catalog each look.  We go through each look, write down exactly what each model is wearing (down to rings, necklaces, shoes).  We also make special notes for the models on specific attire concerns (i.e. proper undergarments).  All of this information is put into the computer so inventory sheets can be printed for each look.

...and now on to developing the actual show!
