In our last Style Makeover, you met Lisa. She was wondering what to wear during the holidays...and she is pregnant! In the blog post, I promised to give you some tips on how to Dress when you are Expecting.
Some things to keep in mind:
Know when
something doesn’t fit - there will come a time (probably in the first trimester) when you will need to admit your "regular" clothes just aren't working. If something becomes uncomfortable, don't force yourself to wear it.
Stick with What
you like - You know YOUR style, don't try to become someone else just because you are pregnant. Embrace YOUR PERSONAL style...as a beautiful expectant mommy!
Look for
fabrics like Lycra and jersey - anything that is stretchy is your new best friend. Avoid things like satin or heavy fabrics.
Opt for muted colors - being mindful of your best colors and sticking to muted neutrals is a good idea, especially during that first trimester.
Keep prints
simple - prints can be tricky for mommys-to-be. Prints tend to bring attention to various areas of your silhouette - a smaller simple print is a safe option.
Invest in a few
key pieces - no one wants to spend a ton of money on a wardrobe you will only wear for 6-8 months. If you invest in a few key pieces, you will be able to create many different looks while looking stylist and being comfortable.
- Good denim – base your wardrobe around a great pair of maternity jeans. Look for something in a straight leg or boot cut in a dark wash color
- A stylish wrap dress- this is something that you will be able to wear at all the phases of pregnancy. Pair with boots in cooler months, and then transition to flip flops for warmer days. Layer over tank tops and under sweaters.
